Questions about Academics and COVID-19
What were your classes like in your first year or in your major/concentration, especially transitioning from Shen?
Small class/lecture based

What academic experiences have stood out to you at your college in either positive or negative ways?
Sports team (Men’s lacrosse), Great professors, flexible major/minor opportunities

How was your online learning experience at your college? What resources did your college provide you during this time?
My current grad program is all online and has done well. Not only are we learning how to learn online, but also teach online. Technical support firstly, has been readily accessible for all students. All lessons have been translated to an online format with due care and diligence.

What did your college do well or poorly to support students and communities when COVID-19 first hit?
All teachers were removed from residency to protect their health. Regular updates from administration.

Questions about Student Life
If students are interested in your major/concentration, what extracurricular activities do you recommend they do at your college?
Clubs! If there isn’t one already, start one. Be a leader, meet people, reach out to experts in your field. I was on men’s lacrosse at Siena and in pre-law society. I was also an orientation leader which I loved.

What are common things to do on weekends? Do students commute back home for the weekend or are there events on campus?
Plenty of intramural sports, sporting events, conferences, holiday events. Some students go home because many are local at Siena, but most stay.

Are you involved in athletics at your college? How do you balance sports, academics, and extracurricular activities?
Yes, practice 5 days a week and games/scrimmages saturdays. Sleep is essential. Using time wisely is key.

Do you have a job during the school year, or is it common for students to have on-campus jobs? What is that experience like?
I tutored twice a week at Schenectady high and it was refreshing to get off campus and work with a different group of individuals.

Extra Questions
What advice would you give to current Shen students when applying to your college?
Don’t focus on being the “well rounded individual” anymore. Focus on one thing you’re really good at, really passionate about, something you’re a leader in.

What makes your college special to you?
My friends I met freshman year became family. At Siena I became part of a well respected legacy I can always connect with people on.

What do you wish you knew about your college when you were a senior at Shen?
It’s smaller than I thought! And very close to home, I wish I spent a semester abroad. Community college also would have saved some money.

Before COVID-19, what was the housing like at your college? What would you recommend to Shen seniors to find their roommates?
Dorms/Townhouses: find someone you can spend time with, but will also allow you to meet other groups of friends.

How is the financial aid situation at your college?
Manageable, many scholarships were available.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your college experience that hasn't been addressed yet in this questionnaire?
How to make friends!: leave your door open, ask your classmates to get coffee after class, do homework together, talk to each other in person. Make friends with as many people as possible because you never know what might come from it.
