Learn from Shen alumni about their college experiences

Shenendehowa Students to Alumni Relations (SSTAR) is a tool for current Shen students to learn about Shen alumni's personal experiences at specific colleges to empower them to make more informed decisions when applying to college. Attending college is just one of the many pathways people can do after high school. This network will not be able to highlight other life pathways and certainly does not diminish how valuable they can also be, but instead will focus on narratives of people who decided to pursue a college experience.

As a result of social distancing guidelines and closure of many college campuses, current high school students are unable to visit colleges in person to get a sense of both academic life and student body culture. Although many colleges offer virtual tours and/or online admissions sessions to prospective students, this experience is limiting such that there are fewer opportunities to talk with current college students. Without talking to current students, it is difficult to ascertain how the college administration actually supported their students and communities this past spring.

 

SSTAR is a valuable resource to bridge the Shen community from past to present and address inequities of access to information about higher education.
